The fine folks at Cthulhu Saves have been kind enough to give us free uploads not only of the official Invader Zim soundtrack by composer Kevin Manthei, but they’ve also provided the 300-plus track promotional album, The Amazing Zim-Phony with more doomy-doom-filled score music than you could fit in Ultra-Peepi’s cyber cheeks, plus some tracks with interviews and explanations by the production team and some choice sound bytes. Manthei’s music was the perfect hilariously and facetiously macabre epoxy to seal together one of those rare, nonpareil cartoons that’s eminently peerless and in a genre of its own.

Zim certainly wasn’t for everyone, and those for whom it was made are still astounded that it made it to the air at all. I’ve been privileged to work with the guy responsible for squeaking it through Nick Standards, so I know what a battle these things can be – the handful of Zim episodes that were produced are all treasures of organ-consuming happitude from the blisteringly pubescent-yet-erudite mind of Jhonen Vasquez, whom I should add is a total hottie whose eye contact I used to avoid when we crossed paths at work.
If you’ve not seen Invader Zim, you can probably find some episodes online to peruse, and if you like it, you should buy the spanky boxed set of the entire show. It comes in a little alien invader house that’s beyond cute. If you’re already a fan, download these brilliant fucking soundtracks already!

I didn’t really get this, until I realized that this must be Al Gore’s house. If it is, I have to admit that this pisses me off quite a bit, Mr. Gore. Grass is essentially useless, takes assloads of water to maintain, and oodles of gas to cut.

John Phillip Law, best known for his portrayal of Sinbad in the classic Ray Harryhausen films, as well as Pygar the blind angel in the kitsch epic Barbarella has died at the age of 70. The Sinbad films were a staple of my childhood and Law’s intense stare and presence were a major part of what inspired me to be a passionate human being. The raunchy cornball aesthetic of Barbarella, especially Law’s shyly sexy angel, were instrumental in my sexual development as a teen and an adult, so this death hits me a bit close to home.
So long, JP, you were one in a million.
Say your goodbyes to another talent who left us far too soon.

I got to spend the greater part of yesterday with my old friend Livia Beasley, the woman responsible for lots of your favorite kids’s TV shows and the founder of Women In Children’s Media.
Livia and I worked together several years ago at Noggin - she produced an interstitial live online and on-air chat for kids that was, at the time, extremely revolutionary. Kids would enter our chat room and discuss what was on our network at the time, and Livia would select lines of chat that would be sent directly on-air in a little scrolling chyron under the show.
My job was to play the chat host, a computer program called the Hubb3r8r. The initial concept was that the Hubb3r8r was to be a dry interface to keep kids on topic, but I was instantly bored with that, and told the kids that I was a brand new construct and that they needed to program me to interact properly. This meant that they taught to say me every form of late 20th and early 21st century 7-year-old jargon, including “Boo yeah, Grandma!” which I still use to this day, because I’m just that mature.
Livia and I had a great time catching up, throwing around ideas for projects in television and publishing, reminiscing about past projects and laughing our booties off. She’s one of those spunky connector people who knows everyone and promotes them fiercely to one another: a sort of human circuit breaker, if you will. Only much, much prettier. When you hang with Livia, her energy and oomph are contagious. It’s hard to do anything other than get caught up in her whirlwind of excitement, and it’s easy as cherry pie to see why someone with her passion for kids and their edification has become a potent player in the world of youth educational entertainment.
If you have young kids who watch TV, chances are you and they have loved a lot of Livia’s work. If you get a chance, check out her website and drop her an e-mail to thank her for making your little snots less snotty.
Some days, I’m still amazed that I know so many talented and amazing people.

A letter from the desk of quintessential smarty-pants, Albert Einstein is up for auction. And what’s so special about this letter? In it, in no uncertain terms, he makes his feelings about religion known, calling belief in God "childish superstition" and goes on to state emphatically that Jews are not any more "chosen" than anyone else. More to the point:
"The word god is for me nothing more than the expression and product of human weaknesses, the Bible a collection of honourable, but still primitive legends which are nevertheless pretty childish. No interpretation no matter how subtle can (for me) change this."

Noah Diamond provides seven perfectly viable ways that Clinton can win the Democratic Nomination, which include, but are not limited to: "Barack Obama could change his mind about seeking the presidential nomination." and, "Hillary Clinton…could introduce and pass a resolution in the Senate to repeal the Fifteenth Amendment."
The entire list is priceless.

Utah Phillips has topped my list of working class heroes for all of this century and a good part of the former. He’s been a virulent advocate for the rights of workers, worldwide. He collects old folk songs, performs them on the road, has written countless classics of his own, and has worked tirelessly for decades to educate the apathetic public about the ways in which the fat cats repeatedly and savagely dupe them.
Utah is no spring chicken and has recently fallen ill, but is thankfully on the mend. As he can’t travel the country by hopping trains like he once did, he’s now offering a
free podcast to keep everyone up to date and to share some of his hilarious, rustic, sad and profound stories.
His son is keeping a blog to give regular updates on his dad, and you can syndicate the blog to your LJ:
Phillips is one of those landmark Great American Treasures, the kind of performer who never got rich or even made a mint on doing his thing for the greater part of the 20th century. With health problems that come from age and fatigue, he’s having some problems keeping up with bills in this recession. Luckily, lots of saints who have soaked up his work over the years are organizing benefits to help him and his family through these hard times. Check his site and son’s blog for details about how can attend or organize benefits of your own.
And without further ado, here is your free Mp3: Utah Phillips, performing Stupid’s Song

So, Obama scored one solid and pummeling victory last night, and Clinton just barely, barely took the lead in Indiana. She's staying in the race, though. How does everyone feel about this? What do you think her plan is? How do you see things playing out from now to the Convention?
